Saints free agent addition can directly add to his own wallet if he helps New Orleans win another Super Bowl as soon as possible
The offense has a ton of potential.
The New Orleans Saints have not been shy about handing out contracts during free agency this offseason. Inking running back Travis Etienne to a four-year deal is one of their biggest moves.
His contract details have recently been released, and it is a contract that makes sense for both the player and the team in multiple facets. Well done by both sides.
Travis Etienne has escalators for team success with Saints
According to Katherine Terrell, the contract for the potential star running back has some unique aspects that will motivate him to help the team win games in upcoming seasons.
Etienne will earn $250,000 if he has 1,000 rushing yards, and the Saints wins the NFC Championship this season. He will earn another $250,000 if he has 1,000 rushing yards, and the Saints win the Super Bowl.
In both outcomes, the RB gets rewarded for most likely playing a huge role in their offensive success.
Check out the breakdown of the full deal for Etienne below.
- 2026: $5M cap, $2M base (guaranteed)
- 2027: $13M cap, $10M base (guaranteed)
- 2028: $15M cap, $12M base ($4 million injury guaranteed)
- 2028: $14M cap, $11M base

Saints made a smart decision with his contract negotiation as well
Etienne’s reported deal includes a $12 million signing bonus. That aspect of the deal will be prorated over the course of the contract, but the rest of the guaranteed money will be paid out over the first two years of the contract by the Saints.
With that, they will be off the hook, money-wise, after two seasons. If they want to go in a new direction at running back, they will have that freedom. Of course, that could change if the Saints choose to restructure his deal next offseason, but that doesn’t seem particularly likely as of now.
