One NFL insider sure sounds confident that Dolphins running back Devon Achane is getting paid this offseason…
The only question might be who ultimately pays him.
The Miami Dolphins don’t sound as though they’re interested in moving on from running back Devon Achane this offseason.
The rumors have persisted nonetheless. I would expect that will continue to be the case, given Achane’s overall appeal as a home-run hitting player and the Dolphins’ outlook for 2026. But all indications from general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan would seem to suggest that Miami covets their star player enough to not only keep him, but try to work out a long-term extension. We’ll see. ESPN’s Adam Schefter? He sure sounds confident that Achane will be getting paid one way or another this offseason in a recent episode of ‘The Adam Schefter Podcast’.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter sure sounds like he expects Devon Achane to get paid this offseason
“Take a look at the running backs right now. Bijan Robinson, going to cash in. Jahymr Gibbs, going to cash in. Devon Achane, going to cash in. There are some huge running back deals that get done at some point this offseason. So whereas we’ve already seen one big wide receiver deal, get ready for the parade of running backs. Because that’s what is coming next…when you can catch (the ball) like Bijan, Jahmyr, and Devon Achane, you make yourself more valuable.”

It certainly sounds like Schefter expects Achane to get a deal done. And, unlike Robinson and Gibbs, Achane does not have a 2027 fifth-year option from his rookie contract to lean on. Achane getting paid also doesn’t have to mean that Miami is the one paying him, either. So this shouldn’t be read as a guarantee. But it is worth noticing that Schefter does speak with a certain level of confidence around where things are headed with the running back position and Achane’s inclusion in that conversation.
Sullivan conceded at the 2026 NFL Combine that Miami does intend to hold extension talks with the running back. I’d suspect we’ll hear more on that front after the 2026 NFL Draft.
