Notre Dame is set to make a strong push for one of the more fascinating players in the 2027 recruiting class
Notre Dame football just made a very intriguing 2027 recruiting offer.
Notre Dame football is trending in a great direction with its 2027 recruiting class, which looks like it could end up being another elite group under head coach Marcus Freeman. The Fighting Irish and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary made an extremely interesting offer to a 2027 recruit this week, four-star Iowa City (Iowa) Regina linebacker Tate Wallace.
There aren’t many more interesting overall prospects in the 2027 class than Wallace. While Notre Dame offered him at linebacker, Wallace’s film would indicate that he might be able to play several positions on the college level. Wallace spends a ton of time on the edge for Regina, offering some intrigue as a full-time pass rusher down the road as his body develops.
Wallace also has some outstanding moments on film as a tight end. While he wouldn’t be the tallest tight end of all-time, Wallace’s athleticism and willingness to block offer some real intrigue for a prospective college team. It wouldn’t be shocking to me if there are some coaches who have toyed with the option of him on the offensive side of the football.
The diverse skill set that Wallace brings to the table feels like the perfect fit for a modern linebacker. I expect Jean-Mary and the Notre Dame staff to keep very close tabs on Wallace. Don’t be shocked if he eventually becomes a priority for the program.
Tate Wallace’s recruiting background
Wallace is considered to be a four-star player by both Rivals and 247 Sports, while ESPN hasn’t ranked him quite yet. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Wallace was rated as a four-star, the No. 372 overall player, the No. 29 linebacker, and the No. 2 player from the state of Iowa for the 2027 recruiting class.
More and more teams have taken notice of Wallace over the last several months. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Tennessee, Kansas State, Arizona State, Arizona, Minnesota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Purdue, among others.
As a junior in 2025, Wallace put together a tremendous season for Regina on both sides of the football. On defense, the 6-2, 226-pound athlete managed to collect 50 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He was a big reason why the team ended with a 12-1 overall record.
Wallace is also a rare two-way star who could also play tight end on the college level. In those 13 games, he managed to haul in 40 receptions for 611 yards and 10 touchdowns. That’s an average of 15.3 yards per reception, while also showing great effort as a blocker.
