Jordan Love’s contract is about to look even better for the Packers, and that involves Caleb Williams and several other QBs
Love is still under contract with the Packers for three more years, and the quarterback market is about to have a big explosion next offseason.
When the Green Bay Packers gave Jordan Love a four-year, $220 million contract extension to Jordan Love back in 2024, there was relief among fans that the deal was finally done. Critics, though, argued that was too much money for a player with only half a season of high-end performance.
Two years later, the contract looks more and more like a perfectly fine deal — and one that tends to get even better as the quarterback market evolves.

A big year coming for quarterbacks
CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones mentioned that the 2027 offseason should see an explosion of QB value, making Love’s contract team-friendlier.
“Start the countdown: We are about 11 months away from what could be the biggest quarterback contract offseason in recent NFL memory. Dak Prescott set the bar in 2024 with his deal that averages $60 million per year, and we could see multiple players surpass that in a year’s time.
The end of the 2026 season marks the first opportunity for the Bears, Commanders and Patriots to sign their high-performing quarterbacks to extensions. Caleb Williams does not have an agent, which can always make for unique negotiations.” — Jonathan Jones.
Jones also mentioned Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, put particularly Lamar Jackson as players who could get big-time contract extensions next offseason. Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa signed prove-it deals with the Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons, respectively, and if they go right, these quarterbacks could be in line for new big deals as well.
Jordan Love’s contract situation
Love is under contract with the Packers for three more years, slated to make $51 million in 2026, $43 million in 2027, and $45 million in 2028. The cap hits are $36.122 million in 2026, $42.457 million in 2027, and then it jumps to $74.2 million in 2028 — plus $34.7 million in dead money in 2029. That puts the Packers and Love in position to negotiate a new extension ahead of the 2028 season, which would secure the quarterback under contract for the long term, while also lowering his immediate cap hit — and keeping his void years spread out.
When the Packers signed Love, the only aspect that didn’t look great for the team was the length of the deal. Ideally, Green Bay would have given Love a five-year extension. But agent David Mulugheta and the Athletes First made a concerted effort to keep the deal shorter, so Love would return to the negotiation table sooner and take advantage of the growing market.
The big argument around rookie contract quarterbacks like Caleb Williams is how cheap they are, and how easier it is to build around them. But that window is quickly closing to teams like the Chicago Bears, and these deals could be bigger than what the Packers gave Jordan Love. Ultimately, the quality of the quarterback is the most impactful aspect — and Love has proven to be a high-level player for the Packers, always making his contract a palatable one.
