The NFL has officially announced each team’s full offseason workout schedule for 2026, starting on Day 1 and ending with the team’s mandatory minicamp session.

The Chiefs and most other teams with returning head coaches kick off the voluntary portion of their offseason workout program on Monday, April 20, or Tuesday, April 21. Teams with new head coaches can start a bit earlier, as soon as Tuesday, April 7. 10 teams will host voluntary veteran minicamps this year, but Kansas City is not one of those teams.

Chiefs’ 2026 Offseason Workout Schedule Revealed

Here’s a quick glance at the Chiefs’ schedule, as released by the NFL on Friday, April 3. These dates are subject to change at the club’s discretion.

  • First Day: April 20
  • Organized Team Activities Group 1: May 26-28
  • Organized Team Activities Group 2: June 1-3
  • Mandatory Minicamp: June 9-11

The big news here is that none of the mandatory attendance dates fall on the reported wedding date of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce (June 13, via Us Weekly). That’s likely by design, given that many from the team are likely on the guest list. One thing that is different for the Chiefs this year is that they typically host three weekends of OTAs. This year, they only have two of those workouts. I suspect it also has to do with the Swift-Kelce wedding, though it could also be related to Patrick Mahomes’ status as he recovers from a knee injury. There is some optimism that Mahomes will be able to participate in some capacity during OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

NFL Offseason Workout Phases Defined

  • Phase 1: “Consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.”
  • Phase 2: “Consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as ‘perfect play drills,’ and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.”
  • Phase 3: “Consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or ‘OTAs’. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.”

The Chiefs’ rookie minicamp hasn’t yet been officially announced to the public. They have two weekends to choose from after the 2026 NFL Draft: May 1-3 OR May 8-10. They typically choose the latter of the two possible dates, but this year I’m told the rookie minicamp will take place on May 1 and 2. Rookie minicamp is important because they’ll host a ton of undrafted free agents for tryouts, in addition to getting a first look at the team’s draft class.

OTAs provide an early look at the entire roster, while every player on the Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster must attend the team’s mandatory minicamp session in June. Those who don’t attend (typically, contract-related holdouts) will face mandatory fines from the NFL.
