The Florida Gators are working hard on the recruiting trail at every position, but one that’s come to the forefront is quarterback.

Head coach Jon Sumrall is in the midst of a quarterback battle between Georgia Tech Yellowjackets transfer Aaron Philo and redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr. Those aren’t the only quarterbacks the Gators are looking at.

Recruiting has been a major focus for the Gators. They are in position to land five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller and have made serious progress with multiple other top recruits.

Florida Gators top quarterback recruit sets commitment date

Ahead of the Gators’ spring game on Saturday afternoon, they will be seeing one of their top targets announce their commitment. Four-star quarterback Davin Davidson, out of Sarasota, Florida, will announce his commitment on Thursday, April 9th.

Davidson is one of the top quarterback recruits in the nation for the 2027 class, ranking 12th and 132nd overall. At 6-6 and 210 pounds, he is a fascinating recruit. You don’t see a lot of high school juniors with his kind of size and movement skills.

In February, Rivals’ Charles Power broke down his game, and there is a lot to like.

Davin Davidson is another physically-talented 2027 passer who has seen his profile rise coming out of his junior season, as he helped Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney to a state title. Davidson pairs immense size at around 6-foot-6, 215 pounds with a very live arm. He’s more of a fastball thrower right now and will need to continue adding nuance as a passer. The size, arm, and movement skills are very projectable and his physical upside has created a considerable buzz.

Offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner does a great job adapting to the personnel that he has, and having a quarterback with a big arm would help maximize the impressive recruits they have at wide receiver.

Davidson might be choosing between seven schools, but the Gators are overwhelming favorites, ranking 96.6% in the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine.
