A transfer guard who is a perfect fit for Rick Barnes and the Vols was in Neyland Stadium in 2022 for Tennessee’s win over Alabama
The Tennessee Vols are looking to revamp their roster after the program came up one game short of reaching the Final Four this past season. Tennessee is reportedly committed to being “aggressive” in the transfer portal.
The Tennessee Vols are expected to take some big swings in the NCAA transfer portal as Rick Barnes looks to rebuild the roster this offseason.
Tennessee will essentially have a brand new team in 2026-27 after numerous key contributors from this past season’s squad have already entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Forward J.P. Estrella, forward Jaylen Carey, guard Bishop Boswell, guard Clarence Massamba, forward Cade Phillips, and guard Troy Henderson are among the portal departures so far for the Volunteers.
Forward Dwayne Brown and guard Amari Evans haven’t made official announcements on their futures yet, so it’s possible they could return to Tennessee. Otherwise, it’ll be a new-look roster for the Vols next fall.
Guard who would be a great fit for the Vols attended Tennessee’s win over Alabama in 2022
One player who would be a great fit for the Vols is Wake Forest transfer guard Juke Harris.
Harris, 6-foot-7/200 pounds from Salisbury, NC, averaged 21.4 points per game as a sophomore for the Demon Deacons this past season.
The North Carolina native was recruited by Tennessee before he eventually landed with Wake Forest.
Harris, in fact, was in Neyland Stadium in 2022 for the Vols’ memorable 52-49 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
“The most memorable part of the visit was when we all rushed the field after the game,” said Harris to On3 after his official visit to UT for the Bama game in 2022. “So many Tennessee fans were saying my name and stopping their celebration to tell me they wanted me to commit. That made me feel super welcomed.”
Harris is a long wing who can get to the basket and score. He’s exactly the type of player that Barnes needs to help take Tennessee’s offense to the next level.
But the Vols will have plenty of competition for the talented guard if they choose to pursue him.
For starters, Harris could decide to go to the NBA.
Secondly, NC State head coach Justin Gainey, who served as an assistant coach at Tennessee from 2021 to 2026, has a great relationship with Harris after recruiting him for the Vols.
“I’ve been talking a lot with coach (Justin) Gainey,” said Harris to On3 in 2022. “He has been making sure I’m doing well. He came to literally every single game I played in California, and I noticed that.”
NC State is expected to be in the mix for Harris.
Tennessee may need to be willing to spend big if they decide Harris is a player they want to strongly pursue.
