Lady Vols named as a program to watch for highly-coveted forward who recently entered the NCAA transfer portal
The Lady Vols are starting from scratch this offseason as head coach Kim Caldwell has been tasked with rebuilding the entire roster. Tennessee won’t have any returning players for the 2026-27 season.
The Lady Vols will have a completely new roster in 2026-27 as every player from last season’s team has either exhausted eligibility or entered the NCAA transfer portal.
That leaves head coach Kim Caldwell in a tough spot as she enters a pivotal year three on Rocky Top. But that may not be a bad thing after the way last season went (off-the-court drama and an eight-game losing streak to end the season).
Caldwell and the Lady Vols are essentially starting from scratch as the NCAA transfer portal opens this week.
Lady Vols named a team to watch for coveted transfer forward
One player the Lady Vols could be in the mix for is Georgia Bulldogs transfer forward Mia Woolfolk.
Woolfolk, 6-foot-3 from Midlothian, VA, averaged 13.9 points per game this past season. She has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
On3’s Talia Goodman named Tennessee as a program to “keep an eye on” for Woolfolk, along with Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Texas.
The Lady Vols are expected to be in the mix for Woolfolk after hiring assistant coach Isoken Uzamere, who spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Georgia.
We’ll see if the Lady Vols make a serious run at landing Woolfolk, who will have no shortage of suitors.
Right now, Caldwell doesn’t have a lot to sell. There’s no culture to sell — that’s something that next season’s team will help build — and it’s not like the players Caldwell’s recruiting grew up with the Lady Vols being a dominant program (transfer players that will be targeted by UT were toddlers, or younger, in 2008 when Tennessee won its last national championship).
This is going to be an important offseason for Caldwell. She needs to get this roster right. And she needs to make sure it gels better than what we saw last season. Otherwise, Caldwell may not get a year four at Tennessee.

The Tennessee Vols are looking to revamp their roster after the program came up one game short of reaching the Final Four this past season. Tennessee is reportedly committed to being “aggressive” in the transfer portal.
