Kim Caldwell and Tennessee getting a shot at landing ACC star who ended their season

Kim Caldwell is working diligently to build the Lady Vols’ roster back up after the program lost the entire roster from last season. And she’ll get a chance to convince the player who helped end her team’s season to join her.

It’s a huge week for Kim Caldwell and the Tennessee Lady Vols program. The transfer portal is in full swing and players are looking for new basketball homes.

And few places offer more opportunity than in Knoxville, where Caldwell is looking to re-stock the entire roster after every player eligible to return to the Lady Vols entered the portal.

Fortunately, the wheels are turning in a positive direction for Caldwell this week, having already landed Liberty sharpshooter Avery Mills on Wednesday and securing visits this weekend from a pair of Power Four guards.

Well, it looks like you can add another guard to the visit list, and it’s one that Caldwell and Tennessee knows up close and personal.

Per On3 Sports’ Talia Goodman, NC State guard Zamareya Jones is set to visit Tennessee among a list of suitors that also includes Louisville and Ole Miss.

Tennessee to host NC State guard Zamareya Jones, who had 30 points in the NCAA Tournament against the Lady Vols

If the name is familiar for Lady Vols fans, it should be.

Jones went nuclear on the Lady Vols in the NCAA Tournament last month. In the Wolfpack’s 76-61 win, Jones went for a season-high 30 points on 9-15 shooting and was 10-13 at the free throw line. She also had five steals, three rebounds, and three assists. In the first matchup of the season between NC State and Tennessee back in November, Jones had 18 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the Wolfpack’s 80-77 win.

Jones was the third-leading scorer for NC State last year at 14.9 points per game. She is an effective three point shooter as well, shooting 36.6% from beyond the arc, which was second best on the team last year.

It won’t be easy to land her services, as Ole Miss has some momentum now having landed former Lady Vols star Talaysia Cooper. Louisville is also a solid program, reaching the Elite Eight last season.

But if the chance to lead a program is something that Jones is looking for, few can offer a better opportunity than Caldwell.
