Ohio State football handed a small loss by a Big Ten rival entering their final week of spring practice
The spring is always an important recruting time around college football and that’s no different with Ohio State. Ryan Day’s program missed on a defensive target over the weekend.
It’s a big week for the Ohio State Buckeyes with the last week of spring practice and the spring game set to take place on Saturday. With it being the final week of pads popping for the spring, it’ll be a key recruiting week ahead for the Buckeyes.
There will be a list of key visitors in town on Saturday for the Buckeyes with the spring game. Coming out of the weekend, Ohio State did get some negative news on the recruiting trail with a notable target.
Ohio State missed on a defensive recruiting target to the Oregon Ducks
West Linn (OR) four-star CB Josiah Molden announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks on Sunday. Molden chose Oregon over Ohio State, Texas, and Washington. Ohio State had as good a chance as anyone’s Molden was going to leave Oregon, but it was always a tough sell to be able to make it happen.
“Growing up in Oregon I kind of wanted to explore outside of the state and see what else is out there,” Molden said via Scoop Duck. “But I realized this is home for me here. It was good for me to experience other places.”
Molden is the No. 228-ranked player nationally and the No. 27-ranked cornerback, per 247 Sports Composite. It’s a notable recruiting win for the Ducks to be able to keep the No. 1-ranked player in Oregon from leaving the state.
Ohio State liked the ability of 6-foot, 175-pound Molden and he has an NFL bloodline with his brother Elijah Molden (current NFL safety), and his father Alex Molden (former NFL cornerback) both playing in the league.
The Buckeyes don’t yet have any cornerbacks committed for the class of 2027 out of their nine commitments. Ohio State has the No. 3-ranked class, per 247 Sports. There are currently three defensive commitments for the Buckeyes led by five-star CB DJ Jacobs. Ohio State took a pair of cornerbacks last cycle with Jay Timmons and Jordan Thomas. Timmons has notably already been a spring standout for the Buckeyes.
A miss is a miss on the recruiting trail, even if it was a tough task for the Buckeyes to take a recruit out of Oregon’s backyard. Ohio State won’t do so with Molden and is still in search of its first cornerback commitment.
