Washington Commanders make blockbuster trade with first-round pick of 2026 NFL Draft in insider’s latest mock draft
The Washington Commanders have a lot of options to consider with their No. 7 overall pick, including one domino effect move that could change everything, according to NFL Draft insider Daniel Jeremiah.
The 2026 NFL draft is just under two weeks away, with rumors and speculation growing by the day on what every team will do, including the Washington Commanders.
One NFL Draft insider thinks the Commanders could be a team to watch to shake up the entire first round with a major move. Daniel Jeremiah released his latest NFL mock draft, where he has the Commanders trading back for a haul of picks with one team in mind.
Daniel Jeremiah has the Washington Commanders trading back with the New York Jets in his latest mock draft
Nobody knows what the Washington Commanders will do when they’re on the clock with the No. 7 overall pick, but one move is surely gaining steam. They’ve been heavily rumored as a team looking to trade back, especially with how the board falls and only six picks in the draft.
NFL Draft insider Daniel Jeremiah has the Washington Commanders making a giant leap back from No. 7 overall to No. 16 overall with the New York Jets. It might be worth the move with the Commanders getting No. 16 overall, No. 44 overall, and one of their fourth-round picks (No. 103 or No. 140 overall).
The Jets trade up for WR Carnell Tate, while the Commanders could take WR Omar Cooper Jr. or CB Jermod McCoy at No. 16 overall, and take another top player at No. 44 overall. This gives the Commanders a second and a fourth round pick that they’re missing, and might be worth doing.
Should the Washington Commanders trade back?
In Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft, he has two offensive tackles going off the board, with RB Jeremiyah Love and S Caleb Downs still on the board. I believe the Commanders would entertain a trade back with Downs on the board, but not with Love.
It obviously depends on how the board falls, but a lot of teams think the best value is in the second and third rounds and falls off after that. The Commanders have four of their six picks on Day 3 of the draft, which isn’t ideal at all. They still have plenty of needs to address, such as WR, CB, Safety, and a starting-caliber center, yet don’t have enough picks to add with quality.
The Commanders have done a ton of homework on trade-back options at WR and other positions, so don’t be surprised if they’re calling around when they’re on the clock, looking to trade back.
