It sounds like Dexter Lawrence’s future with the New York Giants is in a good spot after his trade request, per NFL insider

Dexter Lawrence’s trade request made plenty of headlines last week, as it should. While the thought of a trade is a viable idea, it doesn’t sound like one will happen if you read what Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently wrote.

It’s been over a week since Dexter Lawrence asked the New York Giants to trade him and the situation may already be over.

Even with John Harbaugh’s “everybody is tradable” comment.

For starters, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, who covers the team directly, explained why Lawrence should stay in New York shortly after the trade request. Now, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently put out an article stating the same.

“The Giants will either extend the 28-year-old, who is coming off a bit of a down year, or they will guarantee a portion of his pay and add meaningful incentives…

… As I see it, this shouldn’t be too complicated, and I don’t see the Giants moving Lawrence unless some other team goes way off-script with a trade offer. New York already has the makings of a really good defensive front. No need to mess with that.”

These guys are credible, but these are opinions on Dexter Lawrence’s trade request

Breer and Raanan are very credible reporters, but it’s important to mention these are opinions, not reports.

They’re very thorough and well-thought out opinions and they make a lot of sense. However, nothing is fact.

Personally, I think there’s a good chance Lawrence gets traded. If it does happen, Day 1 of the NFL Draft is my bet. A team could easily miss out on a coveted prospect and decide to spend its first round pick on Lawrence, instead.

It’s totally logical to spend a mid-to-late first-rounder on Lawrence, who is a proven product, instead of an unknown rookie.

Yes, Lawrence is coming off the worst year of his career and he battled injuries in 2025, but he’s still just 28 years old. Meaning, it’s likely last year was an aberration, more than anything, and he’s young enough to where a bounce-back is completely feasible.

Regardless, it sounds like Lawrence’s future with the Giants is in a good spot after his trade request. We’ll see if that’s how everything ultimately plays out.
