Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols are trending to land an elite recruit from another SEC program’s backyard
Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols appeared poised to steal a 2027 four-star recruit from the South Carolina Gamecocks’ backyard. Tennessee currently has six players committed to its 2027 recruiting class.
The Tennessee Vols are trending to land an elite four-star recruit from another SEC program’s backyard.
2027 four-star offensive lineman Nate Carson included Tennessee among his top five schools on Wednesday, along with Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
Carson, 6-foot-4/290 pounds from Columbia, SC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 21 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of South Carolina.
Tennessee is “setting the pace” for Nate Carson
On3’s Chad Simmons noted late last month that it’s Tennessee who is “setting the pace” in the battle for Carson.
Simmons also pointed out that South Carolina and Texas A&M are “heavily involved”.
Additionally, Carson told 247Sports earlier this month that Tennessee is the leader in his recruitment.
“Carson tells 247Sports that Tennessee leads his recruitment,” wrote 247Sports’ Anna Adams. “The Vols have done a great job of making him a priority and being consistent in the process.”
Carson has official visits scheduled for Clemson, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
I’d look for Carson to make a decision sometime after he takes his official visits.
It’ll be a surprise if the Vols don’t come out on top in this recruiting battle. And if Tennessee lands Carson as expected, it’ll make it a little sweeter for the Vols that they swiped him from South Carolina’s backyard.
