With the No. 130 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected Texas Longhorns edge defender Trey Moore. Miami’s got a busy day scheduled for draft selections and they get things started with a pick at a position that general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan lamented not getting tackled in the top-100. Sullivan said on Friday night that he needed to remind himself “100 times” that the Dolphins wouldn’t get everything tackled in one weekend. But they do take a step towards reinforcing that position with the pick of Moore.

Here’s what you need to know about the pick and how Moore projects to the Miami Dolphins.

“Texas Longhorns edge defender Trey Moore brings some desired versatility on the edge. He’s got the ability to play shallow zone drops thanks to a compact build, fluidity, and low center of gravity. But he’s been productive as a pass rusher at both UTSA and Texas — he broke Marcus Davenport’s UTSA program record for single season tackles for loss (18) and then broke the school record for sacks in 2023 (14).

The production waned a bit with a leap in level of competition to Texas but Moore was able to showcase versatility that will likely give him a chance to play in the NFL. Moore dabbled in off-ball responsibilities as well — he’s got a few pathways to stick.

The connection shouldn’t be that much of a surprise, as Sullivan was in Green Bay last year when the Packers drafted Moore’s old teammate, Barryn Sorrell in the 4th round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Moore isn’t as big — but for Miami’s hybrid rush room, Moore will get a chance to compete. He’s got a good bag of pass rush moves and has enough functional athleticism to test the edges.

Miami needs all the competition they can get.
