The Las Vegas Raiders aced the pre-draft process. They aced the draft process, getting all their guys at insanely good value. And, now they have aced the post-draft process.

The Raiders have already signed their undrafted free agent class, and it’s looking like it could be the most talented UDFA unit we have ever seen from them. In fact, they grabbed a player the rest of the league forgot to draft.

Raiders landed Xavian Sorey in the Undrafted Free Agent Market

When you look at the UDFAs, the Raiders made it a priority to go after some of the positions that they maybe didn’t get to address as well in the draft, like wide receiver, defensive tackle, linebacker, and offensive tackle.

The Raiders are going to use the UDFA market to try to put the best 53 players on the field as possible when the time comes to do that. They also made it a priority to get guys who could help them right away. One of the best players they got was former Arkansas Razorbacks linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr.

Sorey, at 6’2, 230, has the potential to be a great on-ball linebacker. He’s fast, strong, and is good with his run angles when in pursuit. He’s quick to drive on the ball in those kinds of situations as well. Sorey has enough range to play cutbacks well in the run. And, he‘s very good at working on the edge and blitzing, even though he doesn’t do it a ton. He’s a decent tackler and a very good special teamer.

However, he has missed tackles due to his aggressiveness and, at times, his inability to slow down. He often also gets overwhelmed by blockers, even tight ends. He’s too flat-footed and reactive in coverage, but the tools are there to be a good coverage player.

Who knows, make a transition to the edge-rusher position if he puts on muscle and develops. Probably not, but never say never. All of those things are what the Raiders need, so this pickup is all about potential. He was a projected sixth-rounder, and the Raiders got him as a UDFA. Sorey could be a good football player.
