It’s obvious the Commanders’ still have one last trick up their sleeve after the NFL Draft due to latest roster update

When looking at the Commanders’ current roster, there’s a number that sticks out like a sore thumb and the longer it remains, the more likely it is that Adam Peters makes another roster move at some point.

The Washington Commanders exited the 2026 NFL Draft with six draft picks, increasing the roster to 81 players.

Then, Adam Peters and Co. signed nine undrafted free agents, bumping the roster to 90 players. Per NFL rules, that’s the maximum amount of players teams can carry in the offseason.

But, one of the 90 players is International Pathway Player T.J. Maguranyanga. He currently does not count on the roster, which leaves the Commanders at 89 players.

It’s obvious the Commanders are leaving the spot open in order to sign a veteran free agent, or possibly for San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk.

The Commanders still need help at key positions like wide receiver and cornerback. Safety is a position on that list, too.

There are a few free agents that make sense for the Commanders

When it comes to wide receiver, there are plausible options on the market. Stefon Diggs, Jauan Jennings, and even Keenan Allen would help boost the Commanders’ receiving group, without a doubt.

At cornerback, the top names are Rasul Douglas,Tre’Von Diggs, Martin Emerson, and maybe even L’Jarius Sneed. Douglas makes a lot sense because Daronte Jones needs intelligent, experienced players to help maximize his secondary and the veteran has both traits, easily.

There aren’t as near as many options at safety, so let’s jump to Aiyuk.

If the Commanders continue to leave the spot open, then it’s more than fair to assume obtaining Aiyuk is in play. Whether it’s through a trade or signing him after he’s released.

Acquiring would be a major boon to the Commanders offense, assuming he’s healthy and back to his 2022 and 2023 levels of production. Aiyuk evolved into one of the NFL’s better receivers at the time and his ability to win on all three levels of the field is exactly the complement Terry McLaurin needs.

And, obviously, there’s his relationship with Jayden Daniels. We all know just how high a QB-WR combo’s ceiling is when both players get along and Daniels and Aiyuk get along in spades. They are genuine friends and that kind of connection can lead to very good things on the football field.

Either way, keep an eye on that final roster spot. Something’s bound to happen, sooner or later.
