In the buzz following the NFL Draft, it’s never fun to think about the fact that several players could be in danger of losing their jobs in the coming months. However, it’s an unfortunate reality of the NFL. For the New England Patriots, getting cut means potentially missing out on another Super Bowl run.

Who are the players most in danger of being cut by the New England Patriots this offseason?

1. WR Pop Douglas

It’s a crowded wide receiver room, and I think New England’s recent decision to move into more heavier personnel looks might cut Douglas’s role as a slot receiver out of the playbook. It’s unfortunate, as Douglas has been a reliable target, but his skill set as a slot-only option just might not fit the Patriots’ offense anymore.

2. WR Kayshon Boutte

The trade rumors surfaced before the draft, and I think they are more than simply rumors. As soon as another trade hits New England over the summer, Boutte’s role on the roster likely disappears. Whether the Patriots are able to flip him for a pick or have to outright cut him to make room for another receiver will be one to monitor.

3. OT James Hudson III

With the selections of Caleb Lomu and Dametrious Crownover, that’s two tackles who will have higher roster priority ahead of James Hudson III. Given his relatively cheap contract, there’s little financial motivation working in Hudson’s favor as well. He’ll have to outperform Crownover in camp to earn that OT4 spot, but it might not be enough.

4. CB Kindle Vildor

The battle for the last cornerback spot on the Patriots’ roster will be one to monitor. Vildor has experience, but Charles Woods has the ability to play on the inside and outside. That versatility might be more valuable to fill out the depth chart and could sway the battle in Woods’ favor over the more-experienced Vildor.

5. OL Caedan Wallace

Much like Hudson, Wallace’s role on the offensive line took a major hit as a potential swing tackle. He took a handful of snaps inside at guard, where he’s likely going to have the best chance of making the roster. However, the former third-rounder will be up against veteran stalwart Ben Brown and handy utility rookie Jacob Rizy, who both have significantly more experience on the inside than him. He’s talented, but it might be an uphill battle in this room.
