Broncos legend announces his retirement with a life-changing message for the fan base and the city
The Denver Broncos were blessed to have safety Justin Simmons be part of the organization. Simmons is hanging up the cleats, but not before delivering a powerful message to the city and the fan base who poured so much love into him during his time with the Broncos.
One of the best to ever lace up his cleats for the Denver Broncos is calling it a career. It’s been reported that safety Justin Simmons is retiring from the NFL.
Simmons spent eight seasons with the Denver Broncos and one with the Atlanta Falcons, most recently playing in the 2024 season. Almost exactly 10 years to the day the team drafted him, he’s calling it a career, and what a career it was for the superstar.
The Broncos released a five-minute video highlighting Simmons’ career, and it was a bit more than a tear-jerker. He had a message for Broncos Country with his farewell.
Justin Simmons says goodbye to Broncos Country
“My time here in Denver literally shaped me into the man that I am. To the best fans in the world in Broncos Country, thank you so much for all your support for both myself and my family.”
Justin Simmons stats with the Denver Broncos
Simmons spent eight of his nine seasons with the Denver Broncos. Here’s how he played during that time.
- 134 games played
- 32 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown)
- 666 combined tackles
- 4.5 sacks
- five quarterback hits
- three fumble recoveries
- 71 passes defensed
Simmons was selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 98th overall pick. He was a standout safety from Boston College and became a key defensive leader for Denver.
His resume speaks for itself. He was a four-time All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler, and it was the cherry on top of his career to choose to retire as a Bronco, though that decision never felt in doubt. Playing the majority of his career here, it was an easy decision.
Some players pass through organizations; others define them. Simmons was firmly the latter.
From the moment he arrived in Denver to the day he walked away, he embodied everything you want in a franchise cornerstone. Production, leadership, and an unwavering connection to the community. That’s not something you can box-score.
Broncos Country didn’t just watch a great player; they watched one of their own grow into one of the best safeties of his generation. And while the cleats are officially hung up, his impact in Denver isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
