Ohio State is making a big move with 5-star RB David Gabriel Georges this week, and the Tennessee Vols need to be aware of it
The Tennessee Volunteers’ top 2027 recruiting target is five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, who is also considering the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, and Ole Miss Rebels.
The Tennessee Vols’ top 2027 recruiting target is five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, the No. 10 overall high school recruit in the nation (per 247Sports’ composite rankings).
Gabriel Georges, 6-foot/205 pounds from Chattanooga, TN (by way of Canada), recently included the Vols among his final four schools, along with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, and Ole Miss Rebels.
While Georgia and Ole Miss are in the mix for Gabriel Georges, it’s widely believed that this battle is mainly between Ohio State and Tennessee.
“I know David’s trying to play up all four, but it’s a two team race,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price last week on WNML’s Josh and Swain. “Tennessee and Ohio State are the top two schools here. They’ve been the top two schools the entire time.”

Gabriel Georges will kick off his official visit tour later this month when he makes the trip to Ohio State (which will be followed by official visits to Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Georgia).
Ahead of that visit, Ohio State’s entire offensive staff is making the trip to Chattanooga to visit with Gabriel Georges.
According to Lettermen Row, the Buckeyes’ offensive staff will be in Chattanooga on Monday to check in on the five-star running back.
“[On] Monday, (Carlos) Locklyn (OSU’s running backs coach) will be joined in Tennessee by offensive coordinator Art Smith,” wrote Jeremy Birmingham. “He’ll also be joined by quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler, receivers coach Cortez Hankton, offensive line coach Tyler Bowen and tight ends coach Keenan Bailey.”
Tennessee has put its best foot forward in this recruiting battle — there isn’t much else the Vols can do to convince the talented running back to come to Rocky Top.
Ohio State, however, is clearly going all-in on landing Gabriel Georges. And landing a top recruit over the Buckeyes can be tough (but the Vols have done it before, specifically in 2025 when they landed five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr over Ohio State).
The next month will be pivotal in determining who wins the battle for Gabriel Georges.
