Steelers’ DK Metcalf can finally put incident with Lions fan to rest following a major decision from prosecution amid lawsuit
There has been a major revelation in the legal action against DK Metcalf for his actions against a Detroit Lions fan, and the situation may finally be coming to an end.
It’s not a stretch to say that Pittsburgh Steelers WR DK Metcalf could have changed his career forever when he engaged with a Detroit Lions fan during Week 16 of the 2025 NFL season. The altercation would go on to create a distraction surrounding the Steelers, as Metcalf missed the final two games of the regular season, and even voided the guarantees in his contract, though the Steelers still plan to pay him accordingly.
But it didn’t stop there, as the man who started the altercation, Ryan Kennedy, decided to file a lawsuit against Metcalf. Well, much like the Lions’ season after that game, it appears that Kennedy’s case has hit a wall.

- 850 yards receiving
- 7 total touchdowns
Prosecution says no charges to be filed against DK Metcalf
In a statement acquired by the Detroit Free Press, the following was announced. [Ryan Kennedy] “Did not appear to be injured, nor did he seek medical attention at the game.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., it is alleged that [Kennedy] left his seat holding a Metcalf jersey to get an autograph.”
“As he approached the front railing of the stands, he said something to Mr. Metcalf. As Mr. Metcalf approached the stands, there was a brief interaction where Mr. Metcalf grabbed his shirt and pushed him back. After an extensive review of all the relevant evidence, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has determined that charges will not issue in this case.”
Where Metcalf goes from here
It seems that Kennedy and his legal representation will still be pursuing civil charges in the case. The important part of the story here is that Metcalf can finally go forward without the legal cloud hanging over his head.
Metcalf was hesitant to answer questions on the matter when he returned ahead of the Steelers playoff game against the Texans. Now, all eyes are set on getting back to being dominant in 2026.
