Former Tennessee Vols running back Alvin Kamara has spent his entire NFL career with the New Orleans Saints.

Kamara’s future with the Saints, however, was called into question earlier this offseason when New Orleans signed free agent running back Travis Etienne, a former Clemson standout.

After the Saints signed Etienne, speculation about Kamara’s future quickly began.

“With the Saints reaching agreement today with RB Travis Etienne, there now are questions around the league about whether RB Alvin Kamara will be moving on from New Orleans and whether the Saints would be willing [to] trade him,” tweeted ESPN’s Adam Schefter in March. “Teams are tracking and wondering about it.”

Alvin Kamara addresses the Saints’ signing of Travis Etienne

Kamara appeared on Terron Armstead’s “The Set” podcast on Monday and directly addressed the Saints’ decision to sign Etienne.

The former Vol made it clear that he’s happy to see Etienne in New Orleans.

“I’ve watched him in Jacksonville these past couple years,” said Kamara. “He’s explosive. He hits home runs. He did it in college. Strong dude, seems smart. I’m excited to see what we can do together.”

“I think a lot of people be thinking there’s beef or something when moves like this happen. And it’s like, I couldn’t be happier,” added Kamara. “One, my boy got paid. And two, it ain’t nothing but some help in the backfield. That’s the name of the game. Depth. He got paid and we got help in the backfield. I’m cool with it. One person can’t do it by themselves. So, I’m cool with it, man.”

Kamara totaled just 657 yards from scrimmage in 11 games last season — the lowest total of his career. But based on his comments, he’s obviously aiming to return to the field for the Saints in 2026.

Adding Etienne to the New Orleans backfield should allow Kamara to stay fresh. Kamara may not be the player who can carry an offense anymore, but he believes he still has something left in the tank.
