Latest injury update on Kansas City Chiefs DT Omarr Norman-Lott sets a timeline for his return to practice after ACL injury
Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach snuck an injury update on DT Omarr Norman-Lott into his press conference during the 2026 NFL Draft. Veach provided a rough estimate of what Norman-Lott’s return to action could look like in the coming weeks.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes isn’t the only one on the 90-man roster recovering from a season-ending knee injury.
Omarr Norman-Lott suffered a torn ACL in Week 7’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025. It put an end to a rookie campaign already marred by injury for Norman-Lott. An ankle injury suffered in the preseason cost him Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers. He later missed Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a shoulder injury.
Chiefs DT Omarr Norman-Lott Quick Stats & Facts
The 6-foot-3 and 315-pound defensive lineman was the 63rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He appeared in only five games, with one start, during the 2025 season.
- Defensive snaps: 73
- Tackles: 5
- Tackles for loss: 1
- Sacks: 1
Norman-Lott’s injury really came at the worst time. Chris Jones got used to him taking up double teams on the D-Line. Steve Spagnuolo felt he was adding some juice with his lateral movement skills. Thankfully, the latest update on Norman-Lott’s return sounds like it shouldn’t be too long before he’s back on the field.
Chiefs GM Brett Veach expects DT Omarr Norman-Lott to participate in OTA’s in some capacity after 2025 knee injury
Speaking to media members during the 2026 NFL Draft, Chiefs GM Brett Veach provided an update on Norman-Lott’s status. This came after Clemson DT Peter Woods was selected in Round 1. That move left people questioning where Norman-Lott was in his recovery from the ACL injury.
“You know, again, you guys know how I roll, I don’t want to speak for (Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance) Rick (Burkholder), but I totally expect him (Omarr Norman-Lott) ready to go for training camp,” Veach told reporters. “I think you’ll see him out there at OTA’s and exactly at what point he’ll be just full-go at those OTA’s we’ll see. But I certainly think that he’ll be ready to rock and roll for St. Joe, and I think he’ll do a lot at the OTA. I don’t know if we’ll take the red jersey off him. We probably will let that slowly happen and let him kind of acclimate and ease his way into this, but certainly expect to have him for the start training camp.”
Two weeks of Organized Team Activities kick off for Kansas City on May 26. Next is the team’s mandatory minicamp practices during the second week of June. It sounds like the team expects Norman-Lott to participate more at training camp. However, he may be cleared before training camp.
The good news here is that Norman-Lott is returning to a much different interior defensive line room. The team drafted Woods in Round 1, added Khyiris Tonga in free agency, and added two talented UDFAs in Colorado DT Amari McNeill and Michigan DT Damon Payne. If he needs extra time to ease himself back into action, the Chiefs should be able to afford that with the depth they now have.
