Grading the extension: Kicker Chris Boswell is a part of NFL history after record-tying deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers and kicker Chris Boswell have agreed to a new deal. But was it a smart move from the Steelers?
Ever since the end of the Killer B era, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has largely been anemic. If not for kicker Chris Boswell, there would have been countless games where the Steelers would have put up a zero on the scoreboard.
Boswell once led the Steelers to victory with 6 field goals, giving them 18 points and a win. Well, after a couple of offseasons of trying to get paid, Boswell has finally received what he has earned.
Chris Boswell Facts
- Went to college at Rice.
- Two-time Pro Bowler, First team All-Pro.
- 87.7 career field goal percentage.
Steelers sign Chris Boswell to a four-year extension
“Steelers have agreed to terms with K Chris Boswell on a four-year, $28 million extension. The $7 million average per year ties him with Brandon Aubrey for highest paid kicker in NFL history, per CAA Football. Boswell is now locked in with the Steelers through the 2030 season.” – Adam Schefter, ESPN (via X-Twitter)
It was clear before the Ravens parted ways with Justin Tucker that the Steelers had the best kicker in the division, but in recent years, Boswell went from the best in the division to one of the best in the sport.
Boswell was 19 of 22 from 40-59 yards out during the 2025 season. That is an astounding 86 percent from what is viewed as long range in the NFL. His old head coach, Mike Tomlin, often called him a serial killer because he would never blink and was always playing at a high level, and when the stakes were the highest.
Final Grade: A
Boswell is the class of the position in the NFL. He’s a stone-cold killer who is among the best in the league in pressure scenarios. Sure, signing him to what will be a historic deal on paper may seem rich, but he’s earned every penny.
This deal also likely confirms that he will be with the Steelers through the remainder of his career. Having just turned 35, Boswell is tied to Pittsburgh through his late 30s, which, many kickers have shown is still within their prime.
