One of the fun things about after the NFL Draft is that you start to see teams put out some of these videos from their war room, and you get to see some of the ongoing trade discussions from the weekend. On Monday, the New York Giants put out a video that showed they were in discussions with the Detroit Lions on a trade.

The Lions traded to trade up with the Giants in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft

So here’s what happened. The Lions were sitting at 50, and they were clearly making calls to get ahead of Baltimore to secure Derrick Moore. They moved up to the 44th pick to do it. But in this scenario, they were trying to move to 37. Here are the details:

Lions get: 37th pick
Giants get: 50th pick, 118th pick, 128th pick, and 157th pick

Ok, Brad Holmes has to be thanking his lucky stars that the Giants said no to this and decided to stay where they were and pick Colton Hood. This is an insane trade that would have effectively wiped out the rest of the Lions’ trade chips and forced them to move 2027 picks to move back up.

You can see the thought process here a bit. They wanted Moore, and they probably wanted to get ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, who both selected edge rushers. Ultimately, they waited just a little bit longer and only gave up the 50th and 128th picks to move up to 44, and they got their man. But, wow, this could have been a disaster. No Jimmy Rolder or big Keith Abney steal in the fifth.
