Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was one of the featured names from the second season of Netflix’s original series Quarterback. Burrow’s backup is now getting his limelight this summer.

Joe Flacco is one of four QBs to be featured in Season 3 of the show, which premieres July 14 on the streaming service.

The series has been a hit over the past two years, including showcasing all the highs and lows of Burrow’s 2024 campaign. Cincinnati’s face of the franchise came back from a season-ending wrist injury and had a fantastic statistical season despite the team finishing with a 9-8 record and missing the playoffs.

Burrow was free from the cameras last season, but ended up missing most of the year with a turf toe injury. That injury has now been revealed to have a domino effect.

Netflix Quarterback production information

The hit Netflix series provides exclusive access to four quarterbacks across the 2025 NFL season, including Bengals backup QB Joe Flacco.

  • Executive Producers: Peyton Manning and Jamie Horowitz for Omaha Productions; Ross Ketover, Keith Cossrow, Ken Rodgers and Jessica Boddy for NFL Films; Patrick Mahomes and Jacquelyn Dahl for 2PM Productions
  • Showrunner: Joe Zucco
  • Directors: Courtland Bragg, Shannon Furman, Tim Rumpff and Emily Winter
  • Production Companies: NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions

Netflix made the decision to follow Flacco before the 2025 season began. At that time, he was practicing to become the Week 1 starter for the Cleveland Browns. He held that title through the first four weeks of the year before being benched for rookie Dillon Gabriel.

He was about to be documented as a backup for the rest of the year, until Cincinnati made a call.

Burrow’s Week 2 injury paved the way for Jake Browning to take over as the Bengals’ starter. Browning then massively underwhelmed after three starts, and Cincinnati did something it so rarely does: make a midseason trade.

Flacco was traded from one part of Ohio to another and was inserted as the Bengals’ QB1 for six weeks. Cincinnati only won one game with him under center before Burrow returned, but there were wild weeks with the then 40-year old gunslinger commanding the offense. He re-signed with the club in March.

Netflix struck gold, capturing the trade and his sudden resurgence by complete chance. All because Burrow went down a few weeks earlier.

Featuring Bengals QBs in back-to-back seasons was not the plan, but fans will get exclusive behind-the-scenes access once again when the season premieres on July 14.
