The Dallas Cowboys still have one open roster spot, here are 5 free agent options they should fill it with as soon as possible
The Dallas Cowboys still have room to add veteran help from free agency, here are five options that would make plenty of sense to improve the defense even further.
As of today, the Dallas Cowboys have 89 players on the roster, meaning they can still sign one or even two (as long as they use an international player designation) free agents to improve the team.
With OTAs about to kick off in June, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys wait around until training camp to make additional moves, but below is a list of five veterans I believe they should target.
LB Bobby Wagner
This is the most obvious one of them all. The Cowboys improved the linebacker position by trading for Dee Winters and drafting Jaishawn Barham, but Wagner can be a solid veteran option on early downs and a mentor in the room.
Even at 35 years old, Wagner can bring quality defense versus the run and solid depth.
I wouldn’t expect Wagner to rock the green dot as the Cowboys would likely want to rotate him out on passing downs because his play in coverage has taken a hit. But still, Wagner would be a top-notch addition to the team.
LB Germaine Pratt
Like Wagner, Pratt can be a good bridge linebacker for the Cowboys. Last year, he played solid football upon joining the Indianapolis Colts. A rough start with the Las Vegas Raiders was quickly wiped away by good run defense.
Pratt isn’t someone who will move the needle a whole lot but would bring much-needed depth to the position.
CB Rasul Douglas
I’m not so sure the Cowboys will be looking into Douglas a whole lot but I would. He would immediately be a part of Dallas’ position battle at outside cornerback, which is seemingly up for grabs between Cobie Durant and Shavon Revel Jr.
Nothing wrong with adding Douglas to the mix, who has 93 starts under his belt and two interceptions in 2025.
CB Adoree’ Jackson
I’m not high on Adoree’ Jackson, and I’m sure Cowboys fans who remember seeing him go up against CeeDee Lamb aren’t either.
But the Cowboys brought him in for a workout earlier in the month so he needs to be on the list. While Jackson isn’t the most attractive free agent on the market, he knows Christian Parker’s scheme and could be valuable depth during the offseason.
Nickel CB Kenny Moore
It’s true, the Cowboys expect rookie Caleb Downs to take on nickel responsibilities early on. But in my book, it would be smart to not limit him to that role. Downs will be at his best when he can move around freely and bringing in a quality nickel like Moore could achieve that.
With that being said, the Cowboys need to be comfortable with the fact that Indianapolis released Moore after a nine-year stint despite being one of the best slot cornerbacks in football. Age and injury history may be a factor here.
