ESPN connects the Philadelphia Eagles to former starter they must reunite with amid concerns in key position

The Philadelphia Eagles need to stock up at offensive line, and they should seriously consider reuniting with a familiar face that started 15 games for them not so long ago.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, this season is all about allowing a Jalen Hurts-led offense to bounce back strong. To do that, the path suggests there must be a top-tier offensive line in place.

The latest free agent connection made by ESPN’s Matt Bowen could go a long way in helping them build one, even if it’s a move for depth at first.

Eagles named ‘best fit’ for familiar face

In a recent article listing the best free agency fits around the NFL, Matt Bowen listed the Eagles for offensive guard Mekhi Becton.

“Becton produced subpar tape last season in L.A,” writes Bowen. “However, a return to Philly, where Becton allowed four sacks and had a 71.2% run block win rate in 2024, makes sense as a depth/competition move. At his best, Becton has the size (6-foot-7, 364 pounds) and physical tools to overwhelm defenders.”

Becton started 15 ganes for the Eagles in 2024, and though Philly appears to be set on Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen for this year, it’s a very thin group.

Serious questions surround Dickerson’s long-term durability, as early retirement rumors were a thing recently. As for Steen, the jury is still out on how good he really is. Adding Becton to the mix could give Philly some much-needed depth plus potential starting upside.

Becton potential cost

Becton parlayed his strong 2024 season in Philly into a $20 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. However, he was released as a cap casualty on March, saving L.A. $9.7 toward the salary cap.

Now, Becton will likely be looking at similar numbers, though. Spotrac currently projects his market value at $13.5 million per year. Though the salary cap website projects his next contract as a four-year deal, the Eagles would likely be interested in something short-term only.

At 27 years old, the investment would make sense for both parties, though.
