Cleveland Browns All-Pro Myles Garrett is about to be the topic of discussion, but it couldn’t be more of a nothing burger

Myles Garrett is coming off of a Defensive Player of the Year campaign once again. Still, some Cleveland Browns fans keep getting caught in a pointless conversation.

The Cleveland Browns are back on the practice field in Berea this week for voluntary workouts. It’s the first part of OTAs where the rookies and veterans will be together.

Much of the attention will be on the quarterback position with Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders battling for the starting job. However, the same Myles Garrett complaint is about to surface again, even when it shouldn’t be a talking point.

Myles Garrett’s attendance at OTAs isn’t worth talking about

The two-time Defensive Player of the Year did not attend voluntary OTAs a year ago, and it was before he went on to have 23 sacks. There’s belief out there that Garrett won’t be in attendance this week once again for voluntary OTAs. I’m of the belief it shouldn’t be something fans should put energy toward.

At this point, we know Garrett really isn’t going to show up to voluntary minicamp. He has his own offseason plan he follows and in-season results have come with it. Browns head coach Todd Monken has been pretty open with it being voluntary practices at the end of the day.

“It’s fine, this is voluntary,” Monken said before the draft. “We have other guys besides Myles that aren’t here. I wish they were here. They’ll be ready. We expect them to be ready, and we’ll be fired up when they’re here. And really all the players have informed us. They’ve been unbelievable with their communication. So, has Myles.”

They’ve communicated. Doesn’t mean I like the communication, but it’s voluntary. I wish they were all here. I’ve said that plenty of times. But every one of them is a Brown, and we’re excited that they are.”

The Browns have bigger talking points worth speaking on than Garrett’s attendance in OTAs. Sure, there are small benefits of Garrett being there. It would send a clear message to the rest of the team that the best player is there putting in work, they should be following suit and doing it too. But at the end of the day, Garrett’s teammates know the kind of player he is and what he’s going to bring every Sunday.

Cleveland will have its first practice open to the media of the current OTA sessions on Sunday and if Garrett is indeed not there as expected, it’ll be posted all over X and articles will be written about it. I’m here to tell you it’s a moot point and the Browns have zero to worry about with their All-Pro EDGE who has put together at least 14 sacks in five straight seasons.
