Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman will be in the ESPN booth in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season when the Denver Broncos take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football.

While discussing that matchup on ESPN’s “Get Up” last week, Aikman dropped some truth about the Broncos.

Troy Aikman suggests Broncos would’ve gone to Super Bowl if Bo Nix doesn’t get hurt

Denver came up one game short of the Super Bowl last season after losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

Nearly everyone who watched that game — outside of Patriots fans — felt like the Broncos would’ve won if not for the broken ankle that quarterback Bo Nix suffered the previous week in Denver’s win over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs (a second half snowstorm didn’t help, either).

Aikman is among those who are inclined to agree.

“With Denver, you could argue that they were a quarterback injury away from making it to the Super Bowl,” said Aikman. “It’s unfortunate for that organization, but what a great job Sean Payton has done.”

It seems like a lot of fans in the NFL have forgotten just how good the Broncos were last season. And Denver’s somewhat quiet offseason (the acquisition of wide receiver Jaylen Waddle notwithstanding), has only added to the “memory loss”.

The Broncos, though, went 14-3 last season. They return one of the strongest rosters in the NFL. And they have one of the best coaches in the league.

Denver is dangerous. Aikman knows it. Broncos fans know it. And soon the rest of the NFL will know it.
