This is an important offseason for former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt.
Hyatt, who is entering his fourth season in the NFL, has been an afterthought with the New York Giants the last two seasons — catching just 13 passes for 97 yards since the start of 2024.
The South Carolina native, however, is hoping that a fresh start with a new coaching staff — former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh replaced Brian Daboll as the Giants’ head coach — can help him lock down a role in New York’s offense this fall.
Jalin Hyatt’s Giants minicamp gets off to a tough start
Unfortunately for Hyatt, Giants minicamp didn’t get off to a smooth start for him this week.
According to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, Hyatt appeared to tweak something on Thursday while running routes. Duggan reported that Hyatt limped off “very gingerly” which led to trainers checking out his leg. Hyatt was relegated to riding the bike off to the side afterward.
It’s still early in the offseason, so it’s not like tweaking something in May is going to ruin Hyatt’s offseason.
But Hyatt needs to be on the field if he’s going to impress Harbaugh and the Giants’ offensive staff — the former Vol isn’t going to win anyone over by pedaling on the bike.
Hopefully for Hyatt’s sake the leg injury isn’t something that will keep him sidelined for an extended period of time, but this certainly wasn’t the start to minicamp that he was looking for.
