The Texas A&M Aggies have been riding a ton of recruiting momentum this offseason. Head coach Mike Elko and his Aggie staff have steadily been putting together an elite 2027 recruiting class, which is headlined by several five-star players, including offensive tackles Mark MatthewsKennedy Brown, safeties Kamarui Dorsey, JayQuan Snell, and cornerback Raylaun Henry.

On Friday, the Aggies added another intriguing talent to the 2027 class. 2027 Dexter (Mich.) High School tight end Holden Niemi committed to Texas A&M, and he became the 15th member of their class. Niemi chose the Aggies over Tennessee and Miami, among several others. While the Michigan native won’t be the headliners of the group for Texas A&M, his combination of upside and mismatch potential is extremely intriguing.

The Texas A&M tight end room experienced some turnover this offseason. Nate Boerkircher was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Theo Melin Ohrstrom transferred to SMU. The Aggies did welcome former UTSA standout Houston Thomas and Fresno State tight end Richie Anderson III to the room, but Thomas is out of eligibility after next season.

Adding young talent to that tight end room was paramount of Elko and company in this recruiting class. While it is uncertain if Niemi will be able to make an early impact, adding quality depth to that room is a good thing.

Holden Niemi’s recruiting background

Niemi is considered to be a three-star by both Rivals and 247 Sports, while he isn’t even ranked by ESPN right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Niemi currently sits as the No. 737 overall player, the No. 39 tight end, and the No. 11 player from the state of Michigan for the 2027 recruiting class. He hasn’t yet seen the ranking bump many are expecting.

Despite those underwhelming rankings, Niemi is being pursued by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of his top offers include the Aggies, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, Miami, Indiana, Washington, Michigan State, Duke, Wisconsin, and Kansas, among others.

As a junior in 2025, Niemi put together a tremendous season for Dexter. He was able to collect 794 yards and 11 touchdowns as a pass receiver. Niemi was also a notable player on the defensive side of the football, collecting ten tackles for loss and five sacks. The 6-5, 210-pound tight end is a very interesting athlete with upside to get excited about.
