Florida Gators prove they aren’t done recruiting crucial position with some stiff competition for top recruit
After securing the commitment of four-star running back Andrew Beard, the Gators aren’t done at the position.
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall continues to recruit at an extremely high level. The focus and energy from him and the entire staff have been noticed across the board.
They currently have the No. 4 recruiting class per both ESPN and 247 Sports, which is a major improvement from the Billy Napier era. The top of the class has the first five-star offensive lineman since Martez Ivey in 2015, with Maxwell Hiller having committed back in April. They have been focusing heavily on the offensive side of the football with 10 commitments.
Florida Gators pursuing top running back in 2027 class
The Gators have already landed a four-star running back in Andrew Beard, and they aren’t done. They are in the top-10 of four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis out of Randle High School in Richmond, Texas.
Williams-Callis is the No. 3 overall running back and No. 45 overall recruit per the Rivals Industry Ranking, and he’s got the goods to be a difference maker, which Charles Power highlighted from his time at the Polynesian Bowl.
Landen Williams-Callis was the top running back throughout the week and in Friday’s game. The prolific 2027 rusher from Texas finished with 30 yards on the ground and showed encouraging power and contact balance as he ran through arm tackles.
Williams-Callis has been a prolific runner at the high school level. 133 touchdowns across his first three seasons in high school is an astounding number for an entire career, let alone before the beginning of his senior season.
The interest in Williams-Callis makes total sense from the Gators’ perspective. Outside of Jadan Baugh, the running back room leaves something to be desired long-term. Bringing in two running backs after having two leave in the transfer portal is a smart play by the Gators.
Even though the interest is there, the Gators have an uphill battle to landing Williams-Callis. He visited campus back on April 3rd, but there isn’t an official visit currently scheduled. He’s already taken three official visits to the LSU Tigers, Indiana Hoosiers, and SMU Mustangs, and one with the Missouri Tigers is on the books for June 5th. Landing an official visit will be key to getting more in the mix.
Sumrall isn’t afraid of taking big swings, and that will only serve the Gators well moving forward.
