National media outlet misses the mark when naming the final move the Pittsburgh Steelers need to make this offseason
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a lot of moves on the offensive side of the ball this offseason, but according to one national outlet, there is still another move to be made at WR.
If one thing has been proven true about the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers, it’s that their identity has shifted to the offensive side of the ball.
You look at free agency, where the team added a starting caliber WR (Michael Pittman) RB (Rico Dowdle), and OG (Brock Hoffman), and returned Aaron Rodgers. Then you go to the NFL Draft, where the Steelers selected two offensive linemen, a wide receiver, and a quarterback with four of their first five picks. But if you ask Bleacher Report, the Steelers shouldn’t be done yet.
Steelers encouraged to add another WR in final offseason move
“The Pittsburgh Steelers finally re-signed Aaron Rodgers, and the quarterback has admitted that this will be his final NFL season. If Pittsburgh hopes to make Rodgers’ last ride a memorable one, it should add a little more to its receiving corps.”
“DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. should make a solid receiver duo. However, rookies Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen are unproven, and Pittsburgh’s overall receiver depth is lacking. Adding a vet like Hopkins or Stefon Diggs would help give the Steelers a playoff-caliber offense.” – Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report
Key offseason Steelers additions (offense)
- Michael Pittman Jr.
- Rico Dowdle.
- Germie Bernard.
Should the Steelers actually consider adding another veteran WR?
While I like the idea of going all in with a veteran roster and a quarterback in his final season, at some point, there’s only one football.
With DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Germie Bernard, and Roman Wilson at WR, not to mention Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth at tight end, inserting a ball-dominant player like Stefon Diggs or DeAndre Hopkins is closer to overkill than overpowered on offense in my opinion.
We know the Steelers think highly of Bernard based on where he was selected alone. And the early returns from OTAs are that Roman Wilson has been impressive, which matters for a player who struggled under the old regime. Either way, I don’t see the need for another wide receiver in Pittsburgh.
