The Oklahoma Sooners’ no. 1 class for the 2027 recruiting cycle is at the top for one big reason—they have the No. 5 overall player in the class. However, that player will not have the chance to improve his ranking with his play on the field in his senior season.

According to SoonerScoop, the five-star offensive tackle in the Sooners 2027 recruiting class, and one of the first commitments, Cooper Hackett, will miss his senior season of high school football. He’s set to have surgery on a shoulder issue he has been dealing with for some time.

Cooper Hackett details his shoulder injury to Sooner Scoop

“[Since] my freshman year, I’ve been dealing with some shoulder pain. I really got it checked out a few weeks ago. I’ve got a torn labrum and have some stuff messed up in my shoulder. I’m going back to the doctor on Thursday,” Hackett told SoonerScoop.com. “I’m going to be out in my senior year.

“I’ve got to get surgery probably within the next two weeks. Maybe I’ll get lucky and come back by the end of the season. But I’ll be ready by the time spring ball comes. I’ve got to prioritize my future and get stuff done. It’s unfortunate, but I’m grateful I still have football [at Oklahoma].”

Cooper Hackett is one of the best recruits in the 2027 class, and Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners have been chasing him for at least a year and a half. He is one of the most coveted offensive linemen in the country. He’s the No. 5 overall player in the class, and the No. 2 overall offensive tackle in the class. He’s also the No. 1 overall player in the state of Oklahoma.

Hopefully, he recovers well, and the Sooners get him at his best in 2027.
