Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger takes a direct shot at Mason Rudolph when asked about Aaron Rodgers as a mentor
Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph didn’t exactly have the best relationship when they were in Pittsburgh together, and he didn’t pass up a chance to take a shot.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to find their long-term answer at quarterback in the post-Big Ben era. In fact, a lot of the conversation over the last two offseasons is directly tied to the fact that the Steelers were waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, just so they could try to compete similarly to when Ben was the signal caller.
To the Steelers’ credit, however, they haven’t just gone the veteran route. Whether it was Drew Allar in the third round this year, Will Howard on day three last year, or Kenny Pickett in Round 1 in 2022, Pittsburgh has taken some swings. It happened while Big Ben was in Pittsburgh, too, however, with names like Josh Dobbs, and of course, Mason Rudolph. Well, now it’s Aaron Rodgers’ turn to mentor the young guys during his final season in the NFL, so Ben Roethlisberger was asked about his time as a teacher, and he couldn’t pass up the chance to stick it to Mason Rudolph.
Ben Roethlisberger’s career accolades

Big Ben throws a subtle shot at Mason Rudolph with mentor comments
“There was maybe one quarterback on the team ever that was like, ‘Ben was never good to me.’. I’ve always said I will help you as much as you want to be helped. Sure, I will be here for you. I will watch film [with you], and I will do whatever you want,” Roethlisberger said on his podcast via the Channel Seven YouTube channel.
“I think there’s been a lot of guys that have played with me that will co-sign that. I mean, I think most would, and I think Aaron just came out, said, ‘Hey, I’m here to help Will [Howard] and Drew [Allar], as much as they want to be helped.”
If you caught the subtle shot at the beginning from Ben, it’s not as if the perceived “beef” between him and Rudolph is something new. In fact, when Steelers Super Bowl champion Joey Porter came out to say that Ben Roethlisberger was an expletive, it was Mason who commented on Instagram to engage that thought.
We may never know why Big Ben didn’t take a liking to Rudolph, but it’s still very evident that there is no love lost between those two.
