‘It’s not to that point yet’ – Top Vols insider gives the latest on Chaz Coleman after a confusing weekend
It was a confusing weekend for Tennessee Volunteers fans as everyone awaits news on EDGE Chaz Coleman, who hasn’t been around the program much over the last couple of months.
It was a confusing weekend in the Chaz Coleman saga for Tennessee Vols fans.
Coleman, the highly-touted Penn State transfer EDGE who joined the Vols in January, missed most of spring practice. He also didn’t report on time for summer workouts last week.
VolQuest’s Austin Price reported over the weekend that Coleman finally arrived in Knoxville last Friday.
Price also noted on Saturday that it’s “unknown” what Coleman’s return means for his status with the program moving forward.
On Sunday, former Vols coach Doug Matthews, host of Big Orange Sunday on 104.5 The Zone, added to the confusion when he said during his show that he heard Coleman has been dismissed from the program.
VolQuest’s Brent Hubbs, however, reported on Sunday that Coleman hasn’t officially been dismissed from the team at this point.
Austin Price gives the latest on Chaz Coleman at Tennessee
Price joined McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Monday and shared the latest on Coleman.
“He’s still around, he’s still part of the program,” said Price. “He arrived back in town on Friday. They started summer workouts last Monday, and he did not show back up until Friday. I think it’s probably heading in a certain direction, it’s just not there yet. Chaz Coleman’s got to want to put forth the effort, and to this point, he just has not shown a willingness to do that.
“It’s probably heading towards a separation –a permanent separation — sooner rather than later. But it’s not to that point yet. Just because with certain things — it’s not as simple as just ‘You’re off the team’ — because of some other stuff. It’s just not as simple as that.”
Price went on to note that the current team hasn’t viewed Coleman as a teammate in a while.
“The team hasn’t viewed him as a teammate in a long time,” said Price. “So the only way the chemistry gets thrown for a loop here is if he shows back up… It does not affect them unless he’s back amongst them on a daily basis.”
It continues to sound like it’s highly unlikely that Coleman will be part of Tennessee’s football team this fall, but as of Monday morning on June 1, no official decision has been made either way.
