Yesterday was a big shift in the future of the Cleveland Browns by trading Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. Cleveland and Garrett have had a rocky relationship for the last couple of years. It ends with Garrett now a member of the Rams to try and chase a Super Bowl.

Cleveland got a first-round pick, a future second-round pick, and a future third-round pick along with EDGE Jared Verse from the Rams. It’s about as well as the Browns could have done when shipping away their franchise player.

Browns had one stipulation that had to be followed in trading Myles Garrett

It’s sounding more and more like the Browns and Rams have had at least parts of this deal for some time. However, the Browns had one stipulation that had to be met for this trade to happen: they had to have Verse.

According to Fox’s Jay Glazer, the Rams were hoping to make the trade for Garrett using just draft capital, and fought to the end to keep Verse. It goes to show the kind of player they believed they had with the former Defensive Rookie of the Year.

If the Browns were going to move Garrett, they needed to return a capable pass rusher to take his spot. Verse is coming off a 7.5 sack season and is a two-time Pro Bowler through his first two seasons. The Browns have three years of roster control with Verse before they’d have to pay the 25-year-old pass rusher.

According to PFF, Verse had 80 pressures of the quarterback, which was ranked No. 6 in football. The former Florida State standout is a standout as a run stopper too. Verse is likely to be a cornerstone piece of the Browns’ defense they hope can develop into a consistent double-digit sack player.

Trading Garrett was always going to sting the fanbase due to what he’s meant for the last decade to Northeast Ohio. However, getting back a player like Verse ensured they’ll have a capable pass rush in 2026, and Cleveland made it a point that he had to be in the trade.
