Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners are set to move on from their second-longest tenured 2027 commit
The Oklahoma Sooners have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country for 2027; however, it’s taking a hit now.
The Oklahoma Sooners are making moves with their 2027 recruiting class. It’s the best class in the cycle, and they have been adding some finishing touches. However, they also just lost a commit, not because he decommitted or flipped, or anything like that.
According to Parker Thune of SoonerScoop, the Sooners are moving on from 2027 commit Demare Dezeurn, the second-longest-tenured player in the class and the first wide receiver. Here is Thune’s report on exactly what happened:
“Sources told SoonerScoop that subsequent communication between the staff and Dezeurn’s camp led to a breakdown. Oklahoma had pushed longtime RB commit Keldrid Ben to shut down his recruitment for good after an official visit to Florida last weekend. Ben did so and canceled an upcoming trip to Oregon. The Sooners made the same effort with Dezeurn. However, Ben’s willingness to commit fully to Oklahoma wasn’t replicated in Dezeurn’s case.”
This is interesting because this is not something you see often. Sure, you see it from other schools often, but not really with Oklahoma. But if you’re simply doing things the school doesn’t like, no matter what they are, this is what can happen. The Sooners will be fine, though, as will Dezeurn. Counting being committed to OU, Dezeurn will now be looking for his fifth school in as many years, as he’s moved around high schools quite a bit as well.
Demare Dezeurn has plenty of options available
The four-star wide receiver is still a recruit many schools want. It appears that USC, Michigan, Texas Tech, and Nebraska were all very high on him. Now, whether they spin back to him now that he’s made more available is a different story.
USC is the school closest to Dezeurn and the one he visited most, tied with Oklahoma. Regardless, someone will want the elite speed and playmaking he brings.
