Tennessee looks like they’re going to offer elite RB David Gabriel Georges something that Ohio State football just can’t
Ohio State is in a real dog fight to land five-star RB David Gabriel Georges over Tennessee. It looks like the Vols are going to be able to offer the elite running back recruit that the Buckeyes just can’t.
Ohio State’s top recruiting target five-star RB David Gabriel Georges has now made it through what looks to be his two most important official visits.
Two weekends ago it was Columbus and Ohio State for the five-star running back. This past weekend the Baylor School (TN) standout was at Tennessee visiting the in-state Volunteers.
As Gabriel Georges was taking his official visit to Tennessee, the Vols made sure to showcase one thing that Ohio State won’t be able to match.
Tennessee can offer David Gabriel Georges something Ohio State won’t be able to
When Gabriel Georges suited up in a Tennessee uniform during his visit to Nashville, he did so donning the zero number he currently wears in high school. If Gabriel Georges wants to wear zero right away in college, it’s not going to happen at Ohio State.
Since the 2020 season when the NCAA started allowing zero to be worn, the team has handed it to an upperclassman who is voted on by teammates. Ohio State isn’t going to give the “Block O” to a high school player that’s accomplished nothing in college. It wouldn’t fit the culture Ryan Day has been able to maintain in Columbus.
Ohio State has given the “Block O” to LB Sonny Styles, and LB Cody Simon wore it during the 2024 season. WRs Xavier Johnson and Kamryn Babb along with OL Thayer Munford and DE Jonathan Cooper are the other players to get zero at Ohio State.
The Buckeyes undoubtedly want Gabriel Georges badly, and their running back board shows they’re all in on him. But if wearing zero is a big deal to him, it’s going to end up something Tennessee can offer but Ohio State just won’t.
