National insider is calling for Ohio State football to land a pair of elite defenders over multiple major college programs

It’s a big month of June on the recruiting trail for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State is being predicted to land a pair of elite recruits for Larry Johnson’s offensive line, and are expected to beat out multiple major college teams like Texas and Notre Dame.

Ohio State has the beginning of a strong defensive line class for 2027, with premier EDGE talents DJ Jacobs and Wyatt Smith. But there’s more work to be done, and it could end with one of the better classes the Buckeyes have had for Larry Johnson’s group.

The Buckeyes are hot after a pair of top-five defensive tackles in the country who are California teammates. Noise continues to grow for Ohio State to be the school that the Sierra Canyon (CA) duo teams up to play for.

Ohio State is in a strong spot to have a double boom at the heart of its defensive line

2027 defensive linemen Marcus Fakatou and Kasi Currie are two players the Buckeyes are after in a major way. Fakatou made his official visit to Columbus a couple of weekends ago, and Currie will make his visit later this month.

One recruiting expert is predicting Ohio State will land both players when it’s all said and done.

“But Fakatou’s heart might be at Ohio State. His connection with position coach Larry Johnson, the NFL development emanating from that building, and the chance to play for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and that elite staff could be too much to pass up,” Rivals’ Adam Gorney wrote

“For many of the same reasons Fakatou likes Ohio State is why Currie is so high on the program – Johnson, NFL development, history at the position – and playing with Fakatou as a major one-two punch is also now a draw.”

Fakatou took what are seen as positive visits to Georgia and Texas, and both schools have his attention as well. Still, it seems like the relationship with Larry Johnson is a major driver in both of these recruitments, and something the other schools can’t match.

Fakatou is the No. 2 defensive lineman and Currie is the No. 5 player at the position, according to 247 Sports Composite. Adding both players to what the Buckeyes already have incoming with Jacobs and Smith would be massive.

Coach Johnson continues to recruit at a high level and his proven track record of getting players to the NFL is proving to be a difference maker. It might just be why the Buckeyes pull off this duo of an addition.
