NFL analyst makes himself look silly in more ways than one when talking about the offseason the Raiders had with Maxx Crosby
The Las Vegas Raiders love where they’re at with Maxx Crosby after the weird offseason that was had.
The Las Vegas Raiders had a busy, busy offseason. Between making the moves they made to become a better program and the drama, fans were busy.
Obviously, the headlines started with the hiring of head coach Klint Kubiak. From then on, Maxx Crosby dominated media attention. The Raiders attempted to send Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens after Crosby demanded a trade. The physical failed, and now he’s still with the Raiders.
But all is well. This is a year after getting the contract extension, which made him, at the time, the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. Obviously, that deal has since been passed. Now, you have people saying he has one of the worst deals in the league, which is not true. And you have that same person saying the Raiders tried to trade Crosby because the deal is bad, which it isn’t.
Bleacher Report article lists Maxx Crosby’s article as one of the league’s worst
“The Contract: 3 years, $106.5 million with $91.5 million guaranteed (signed in 2025). The Problem: After putting up a combined 27 sacks in 2022 and 2023, the seven-year veteran has failed to top 10 sacks in either of the last two seasons. He’ll turn 29 this summer, and a continued decline is inevitable. The Kicker: The Raiders are pretty much stuck paying him more than $65 million over the course of the next two years. They tried trading him this offseason for a reason.” – Brad Gagnon, Bleacher Report
The Raiders did not try to trade him because of the bad contract; they tried to trade him because he requested a trade. And, the Raiders are going to honor what Maxx Crosby, one of the greatest Raiders ever, wants.
Secondly, the deal is not that bad. We are talking about a guy who may be the best all-around edge rusher in the league. No one plays as much as he does, and no one plays the pass and the run as effectively. That alone makes the contract worth it. He had 10 sacks last year on a terrible team with a bad knee and was shut down early. He had 7.5 sacks in 12 games the year before, playing through an injury. Crosby is worth every penny.
