If you haven’t kept up with college football this spring, then you missed one of the wilder stories in the history of the sport.

An investigation into sports gambling alleged that one of the nation’s best passers, Brendan Sorsby of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, placed over 9,000 bets at nearly $90,000 in total wagers, some of which included placing bets on his own team. Sorsby would go on to admit that the findings were true, and it would create a groundswell that resulted in him losing his eligibility. Then a Texas court granted Sorsby an injunction last week that restored his eligibility. Well, it turns out Sorsby doesn’t want it anymore, and he’s staking a claim at the NFL, with the Pittsburgh Steelers, among others, potentially interested in his services.

  • 2,800 passing yards, 580 rushing yards.
  • 36 total touchdowns.
  • 155.1 passer rating, 81.5 QBR.

Brendan Sorsby to enter the supplemental draft

The decision from Sorsby came as a surprise to many in the space, as just a week after a second chance at life in college football, the polarizing passer is headed to one of the lesser-used dates on the NFL calendar.

Teams across the league will now debate on whether or not they want to use valuable draft capital on a talented, but recently troubled signal caller, and one of those teams could be the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Would the Steelers consider drafting Brendan Sorsby in the supplemental draft?

“If Brendan Sorsby were in the 2026 draft, he would have been the 21st pick at worst. He was going to be a first-rounder, and the Steelers liked him a lot. Everyone in the portal wanted this guy, and the league loved him,” a source told A to Z Sports. “He’s a projected first-rounder coming in. Arizona would make a ton of sense, but other teams, including the Steelers, loved him pre-draft.”

The Steelers quarterback room is already crowded, with either Mason Rudolph or Will Howard on the outside looking in by the start of the season, barring a trip to IR.

But if the Steelers are still interested in Sorsby after everything, and they have a true 1st round grade on him, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Pittsburgh pull the trigger at some point and store Sorsby away for a year while he rehabilitates and learns under Aaron Rodgers.

Time will tell what decisions are made.
