Chicago Bears new WR perfectly explains how psychotic Caleb Williams actually is with his first-hand experience at minicamp
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is known to do some impressive stuff on the field with his athletic abilities but his internal drive is what really sets him apart as a true psycho, even during the offseason.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has had quite the offseason after being named the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27 while going through his second offseason program under head coach Ben Johnson with plenty of high expectations surrounding him.
Many believe this is the year Williams, and by association the Bears, take the next real jump to prove they’re a force to be reckoned with.
It’s also a big year for Williams to put his name into the Pro Bowl and potentially even MVP conversations. He certainly has the talented needed but the trait that really sets him apart is his killer mentality.
Chicago Bears WR Kalif Raymond proves how much of a psycho Caleb Williams really is
Last season, Williams earned the moniker “Iceman” for his ability to stay ice-cold during high pressure situations and deliver for his team. His teammates gravitated around his killer mentality in those clutch moments and it’s something that continues to show up even during the offseason.
Bears new wide receiver Kalif Raymond provided a perfect example of that during his interview Monday on NFL Network.
“It’s the last minicamp practice and we go through one round of two minute (drill) and I don’t think we had another one coming up. And he’s itching,” Kalif Raymond said of Williams on The Insiders. “We’re kicking field goals and he’s like ‘just let me back out there.’ He’s talking to himself and saying ‘let me get back out there.’ I’m looking at him like, this guy has some ice in his veins. It’s two minute in OTAs and he’s itching to get back out.”
That’s not normal behavior from any player in June. It’s hot, it’s the last day of practice before a six-week break, and most players are probably ready to get the session over with. Not Williams. He’s a perfectionist and someone that’s never satisfied.
That’s the championship mentality and something that bleeds down to the rest of the team, so it’s awesome to hear that kind of information from Raymond who witnessed it first-hand that most people wouldn’t have noticed during practice.
Kalif Raymond has been a good voice in Caleb Williams’ ear as well
While it’s encouraging to hear that kind of stuff from your quarterback on the sidelines, Raymond has been a great voice on the field for Williams as well. He’s a 10-year veteran in this league with an incredible work ethic and has a great grasp on the offense. Williams is a third-year player that’s still learning on the fly.
Speaking with the media last week, Williams gave a first-hand testament of his own explaining how Raymond has helped set his mindset at practice.
“Leaf has only been here for a couple couple months or so,” Williams said of Raymond. “Leaf came up to me, there was a day I wasn’t having the best practice, so I got I got really frustrated. He came up to me and said, ‘Everybody’s looking at you.’ And that really resonated for me.”
There’s two emotional sides a quarterback can show to his teammates and both can lead to very different responses from the collective group. You can either be fired up and ready to get back out there to finish practice strong, or you can drop you head and mope after a frustrating session. It’s actually one of the first things Johnson brought up to Williams when he arrived to Chicago.
The more Williams can show that “Iceman” mentality to his teammates and less of the frustration, the more confident he will appear as a leader. And that goes a long way in an NFL locker room.
