The team leading the charge with the NFL’s hottest trend may hold the ticket to roster upgrade for the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins could use some extra help at plenty of positions — and one team elsewhere has a surplus worth watching.
The Miami Dolphins‘ roster retool has plenty of work awaiting them in the months ahead. Free agency doesn’t have much to offer these days and the Dolphins don’t necessarily have robust spending power, either. So the waiver wire now looms as the biggest opportunity for the Miami Dolphins.
So that means keeping an eye on position rooms across the league with a surplus will be on the agenda. We’ve already outlined how the Houston Texans’ wide receiver room could afford Miami a chance to upgrade a roster spot. But let’s not sleep on the Los Angeles Rams’ tight end room, too. They are, after all, chasing their own standard of three tight end sets after their successes in 13-personnel last season. And, as a result, they’ve got five NFL caliber tight ends on the roster.
The Miami Dolphins should be keeping a watchful eye on the Los Angeles Rams’ tight end room this summer

Miami’s tight end situation features a top-3 of Greg Dulcich, rookie Will Kacmarek, and veteran journeyman Ben Sims. Dulcich has shown ample promise in his short time with the Dolphins and expectations for him in the passing game are sky high. And Jon-Eric Sullivan offered some massive praise for Kacmarek at the end of April. But he is still, ultimately, a rookie.
There’s no shortage of opportunity to be found at tight end. Which is the exact opposite of what can be said for the Los Angeles Rams.
Colby Parkinson, Terrance Ferguson, Tyler Higbee, rookie Max Klare, and Davis Allen. The outlook for the room seems pretty clear. The Rams have used second-round draft picks on Ferguson and Klare in consecutive drafts. Parkinson caught eight touchdowns last season. Higbee signed a contract extension this spring.
Sure feels like those four are pretty secure for this season. Davis Allen? He played nearly 600 snaps last year but very much is on the roster bubble. And his pedigree as a drafted tight end who is bogged down in a very (VERY!) crowded room matches exactly the kind of profile that’s worth the Miami Dolphins’ interest. Perhaps the Rams, with their interest in three tight end sets, keep five tight ends on the roster. If they do, more power to them.
But the Dolphins ought to be keeping their eye out west, just in case.
