A new national take on the Miami Dolphins completely misses the mark and ignores the facts of team team’s offseason
One analyst’s call for a final Miami Dolphins move this offseason continues a trend of ignoring the facts.
The Miami Dolphins are not currently among the franchises that comprise the faces of the NFL. They’re also in the midst of an ambitious reconstruction and transition. Both facts mean you never really know what you’re going to get when the national takes start trickling in.
The latest example comes from ESPN’s Aaron Schatz, who outlined one move for all 32 franchises to make this offseason. There are calls for player extensions, free agent signings, and more. But for the Dolphins, the recommended move feels about as far away from the reality of the Dolphins’ situation as possible.

“Look, is there any point in the Dolphins keeping good players if their contracts end after the 2026 season? Brooks could possibly re-sign with Miami to be part of the rebuild. But he’s likely gone, so the Dolphins should get something for him. Brooks was a first-team All-Pro linebacker last season, leading the league with 183 total tackles and adding 3.5 sacks as a blitzer. He would be a useful addition for a team with a contending-quality offense but a need at linebacker, perhaps the Bengals or the Cowboys.”

I mean, sure. That’s one way to look at things. I’m not sure why Schatz was so dismissive of the team extending Jordyn Brooks to a new contract after the Dolphins just *squints* literally just did the same thing with both All-Pro center Aaron Brewer and Pro Bowl running back De’Von Achane. Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan called Achane, Brewer, Brooks, and left tackle Patrick Paul out by name as building blocks back in January. He’s said the team hopes to extend Brooks multiple times this offseason.
I feel like Mugatu from ‘Zoolander’. ‘Doesn’t anyone notice this?! I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING cRaZy PiLLs!“
This group has pretty much told us everything that they’ve ended up doing this offseason. They talked about getting into a healthier cap situation. They’ve talked about addressing quarterback. Getting more physical on the offensive line. Extending their building blocks. Finding ways to get more draft capital and draft by volume. The Dolphins did literally all of those things.
I can’t even dismiss the possibility that Jordyn Brooks ends up being traded. But if that is his fate, it will be because a team offers a compensation package that is simply too good to be true, not because Miami is facing the prospect ‘keeping good players’ for allegedly no reason. I’d say the assertion that Brooks is ‘likely gone’ isn’t rooted in reality either, other than the convenient fact that the Dolphins drafted Jacob Rodriguez in the top-50 this year. But sure. Take one look at a depth chart, the projected win-total, and the current status of a contract and let the takes fly! Why not?
