Dallas Cowboys make slew of roster moves, including a season-ending designation and three free agency signings
The Dallas Cowboys ended mandatory minicamp early, but they’re still working on building the team. That’s why they made multiple roster moves before breaking for the summer.
The Dallas Cowboys ended mandatory minicamp early, as head coach Brian Schottenheimer canceled the third and final practice on Thursday. However, the team building aspect of business isn’t halting.
The Cowboys made multiple roster moves before breaking for the summer ahead of training camp, including three signings and one season-ending injury designation.
Cowboys sign three UFL players
The Cowboys agreed to terms with three UFL players, per ESPN’s Todd Archer:
- WR Denzel Mims
- CB Ameer Speed
- OL Chris Glaser
Mims is the biggest name on the list by far. He was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft but his career never worked out. As a rookie, he recorded 23 catches for 357 yards. That remains his career high to this date.
Mims hasn’t been on an NFL team since 2024 but he’s remained active in the UFL playing for the St. Louis Battlehawks and Dallas Renegades.
As for CB Ameer Speed, the Cowboys will be his sixth team in the NFL since he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Last season, he focused on special teams with the Houston Texans. He was part of the UFL’s Houston Gamblers this year.
Meanwhile, Glaser returns to the Cowboys after a brief stint with the practice squad in 2023. Most recently, Glaser played in the Chicago Bears (2024) and Columbus Aviators (2026) of the UFL. Despite his young age, Glaser arrives at Dallas with experience. He was a four-year starter at Virginia, where he lined up at guard.
All three of these signings are roster longshots but they’ll be names to monitor as the Cowboys haven’t shied away from betting on UFL talent. KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey arrived via the spring league circuit. Most recently, DT Perrion Winfrey had a strong preseason in 2025 but injuries kept him from playing other than one game.
Opening roster spots
To accommodate the above additions, the Cowboys placed OL Matt Hennessy on season-ending injured reserve. He recently underwent neck surgery.
Dallas also released CB Corey Ballentine and WR Romello Brinson, who was recently signed.
