Former Las Vegas Raiders starter just found a new home in the NFC, and it’s the perfect fit for him
The Las Vegas Raiders let edge rusher Charles Snowden go, and now he’s found a new home.
The Las Vegas Raiders are getting refreshed and revamped ahead of training camp kicking off in a month. So, while it’s dead on the Vegas front, maybe it’s worth mentioning a player who was on the Raiders and has now found the perfect new home.
On Thursday, former Raiders edge rusher Charles Snowden signed with the Detroit Lions. This is the perfect fit because Detroit always seems to need help on the edge. Snowden, as a deep piece, can do that. As a starter, he’s not really what you would want, as we saw with the Raiders.
The Raiders recently waived edge rusher Charles Snowden
They waived DE Charles Snowden, OG McClendon Curtis, TE Matt Lauter, and OG Layden Robinson in a single bundle of moves. The surprising one there was Snowden, who started 18 games for the Raiders over the last two seasons. He wasn’t really the guy for LV, but he started games over the last few years due to injuries and because he was on a bad team.
This came as a surprise because you’d think they would just keep him as depth. Given his experience, he could have been a great depth piece. But this opens up playing time for rookie edge rusher Keyron Crawford, who could be a legit pass-rush ace on defense. So, in essence, the move was good for the Raiders. However, not many really saw it coming. Snowden is a good football player for depth, and they’re in the business of having good football players.
As for Detroit, he could probably fight for snaps with the second unit. He’d be in a battle with DJ Wonnum and Payton Turner, two guys who also have some good experience. That pass rush unit isn’t looking too shabby now. And, they have rookie edge rusher Derrick Moore.
