Would you do the Detroit Lions version of the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to the Miami Heat?
Detroit Lions version of the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade is downright painful. The superstar addition is easy to love. The package heading the other way is where things get really uncomfortable. Would you do it?
The Detroit Lions are on a break right now, and we won’t see them back on the field until late July, so let’s have some fun with the big thing that is going on in sports right now.
Earlier this week, the Miami Heat traded for NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. It was a pretty big trade in which the Heat essentially gave their entire team to the Milwaukee Bucks to get the Greek Freak.
This made me wonder, what would a Lions version of this trade look like? So I put one together. Keep in mind, this is a completely fictional trade down to the sense that something like this would never happen in the NFL. But I am curious as to what Lions fans think of it, and whether they would do the deal.
Would you do the Lions version of the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade?
Let’s start here. These are the details for the Antetokounmpo trade:
Milwaukee Bucks received
- Tyler Herro
- Kel’el Ware
- Jaime Jaquez Jr.
- Kasparas Jakucionis
- No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft
- Unprotected 2031 first-round pick
- Unprotected 2033 first-round pick
- 2030 pick swap
- 2033 second-round pick
Miami Heat received
Bobby Portis
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Ok, now let’s play out the Lions version of this. Let’s start here. Who is Detroit trading for? Let’s do a guy that I get asked about once a week and have been asked about at least once a week for three years, Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby. That’s the Giannis part. Now, for Portis, we’re going to throw in guard Alex Cappa.
The Raiders are going to want back a Pro-Bowl level player, an up-and-coming player, and two young guys. Plus all the picks, too. So here’s the deal.
Detroit Lions receive
Maxx Crosby
Alex Cappa
Las Vegas Raiders receive
Brian Branch
Jameson Williams
Tyleik Williams
Tate Ratledge
A 2027 first-round pick
A 2029 first-round pick
A 2030 first-round pick
A 2031 Second-round pick
Ok, that’s a lot, right? The NBA is a wild place. Obviously, you would never do this trade, and if this were real, Brad Holmes would be fired before Crosby and Cappa’s plane even touched down. But I am curious to see if there are any Lions fans out there who will mentally gymnastic themselves into thinking this is a good idea.
