Notre Dame football and head coach Marcus Freeman continue to trend in a great direction with two priority 2027 recruiting targets from the Chicago area. Mount Carmel linebacker Roman Igwebuike and Brother Rice defensive tackle Brayden Parks are among the final pieces remaining on the Fighting Irish’s 2027 board, and the momentum appears to be firmly on Notre Dame’s side for both players.

Rivals national recruiting analyst Steve Wilfong recently updated his predictions on both recruits, writing favorably about the Irish’s chances to close on the Chicagoland standouts.

Ever since Igwebuike took an official visit to South Bend a couple of weekends ago, Notre Dame has become the assumed team to beat. The talented linebacker is set to make his college decision on July 11, when he will be selecting between Notre Dame, Clemson, Indiana, and Tennessee.

The 6-3, 220-pound defender brings a lot of intrigue to the table. His standout trait is his versatility, with the ability to play multiple linebacker spots and rush off the edge when needed. There’s a chance that the Fighting Irish only end up taking one linebacker in the 2027 class due to how the board has fallen, and Igwebuike seems like the best bet to fill that spot.

Landing Igwebuike would continue the strong linebacker recruiting trend that Freeman and the Irish staff have built in recent years. He fits the mold of what Notre Dame has been looking for at the position.

Where things stand with Brayden Parks

Parks’s recruitment has been a bit of a roller coaster. Notre Dame has consistently been battling Oregon over the last several months. At times, it looked like the Ducks had overtaken the Irish. Notre Dame has always had a counter, though.

During his official visit two weekends ago, the momentum shifted back in a significant way. With so much Notre Dame support and ties around him, the odds continue to favor the Fighting Irish to finish this one out. From everything I have gathered, the Irish staff feels good about where things stand with the 2027 defensive tackle.

If Notre Dame can land Parks, it would arguably give Freeman the best defensive line class the program has seen in three decades. That is a massive statement about just how well the defensive line recruiting board has come together for the 2027 group.

What it all means for Notre Dame’s 2027 class

Both Igwebuike and Parks have become priority recruitments for the Fighting Irish over the last several months. With only a handful of important targets remaining on the 2027 board, closing on these two Chicagoland prospects would represent a tremendous finish to what is shaping up to be an elite class for Freeman and Co.

It looks like Notre Dame is favored to land both players, and Wilfong’s recent predictions only add to the confidence on the Irish side. We will see how things play out, but the Fighting Irish appear to be in the driver’s seat as both recruitments head toward the finish line.
