Ohio State football hopes they outsmarted a whole lot of schools with a sneaky weekend addition
The Ohio State Buckeyes landed another key recruit offer the weekend, but it wasn’t one you typically see end up in Columbus. Ohio State thinks there’s good reason for this one, however.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have 17 commitments in the class of 2027 coming out of what was an interesting weekend.
Ohio State recruited four-star WR Blake Wong for quite some time, and was seen as the favorite to land the California wideout at one time. Wong ended up committing to BYU on Saturday, and the writing was on the wall with a weekend commitment the Buckeyes picked up another player.
Ohio State is hoping they’ve found a diamond in the rough
The Buckeyes picked up a three-star player in three-star Oviedo (FL) WR Jordan Donahoo on early Saturday. Ohio State did not offer Donahoo until the end of May, but they immediately jumped to the top when they did so. Donahoo chose Ohio State over Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Georgia Tech.
Ohio State believes Donahoo is a developmental piece with a potentially high ceiling if he can reach it. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound wideout wins contested catches down the field, and brings some Devin Smith to the offense as a deep threat. Donahoo will have to get faster and continue to improve as an athlete if he wants to contribute in Columbus.
According to 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Donahoo is the No. 150 wideout and No. 1202 player in the class of 2027. We don’t often see Ohio State add players on scholarship with these rankings. However, Ohio State believes Donahoo is better than his ranking, and he can be a piece for the future.
Donahoo gave the Buckeyes their second wideout commitment in the class of 2027, and he’s Cortez Hankton’s first commitment since taking over for Brian Hartline. The big wideout joins five-star Jamier Brown, who committed to Ohio State under Hartline.
Ohio State should remain loaded at wide receiver going forward, and it allows them to add players like Donahoo to develop for the future. A really talented player with his best football far ahead of him.
